We asked some of our students what they wished someone had told them to pack when they were a Fresher, and their answers may surprise you...
Packing too many things or forgetting the most important ones are up there as two of the most common Freshers' mistakes. So, who better to give you university packing tips than the people who have been there and done that?

1. Painkillers and multivitamins
You're starting university as the autumn and winter get underway; what's more, meeting new people coupled with the stress/exhaustion of moving can take its toll. Let's not forget you may also be socialising a lot more than usual!
Painkillers and multivitamins were the top-voted packing essential by our students who have personally lived through the infamous 'Freshers Flu'.

2. Adaptors for international students
Is there a worse scenario than arriving in the UK after a long journey and being unable to charge your phone? We certainly can't think of one.
Don't forget that UK plugs might be different to the ones you use back home, so invest in an adaptor or two ahead of your arrival.

3. Extension leads
University accommodation is built to be as comfortable for you as possible. However, there may be spaces that require an extension lead - especially if you want to study in the communal area for example.

4. Clothes airer
Many University halls come with drying facilities. However, for those that don't, you may need a clothes horse or airer.

5. Home décor
It's natural to feel homesick in the first few weeks at university as you adjust to your new home-from-home.
A number of our students suggest packing some home comforts to personalise your living space and make your new place feel as familiar as possible.
This can include pictures of friends and family, blankets and/or cushions from home. They're just small touches, but they'll definitely provide some comfort if you need it!
6. Toilet roll
Many students wait until they've arrived at their accommodation and are settled in before shopping for cleaning supplies and groceries. But, some things you just can't put off!
Make sure you pack toilet roll ahead of moving in, especially if you'll be arriving in your halls after a particularly long journey.

7. NOT a toaster or kettle
This one doesn't quite count as a packing essential; in fact, it's the opposite! Many student halls come equipped with basic appliances, and it's also likely your housemates will bring a toaster or kettle - or both - themselves.
The result is several toasters and kettles per flat, which is unnecessary and a waste of money.
Our students suggest holding off on buying items like this until you're settled into your new home and have a better idea of whether you need them or not.
8. Shower caddy
If you're going to be sharing a bathroom, then a shower caddy is a good idea to keep your things organised, maximise space and make life easier when it's your turn to use the shower in the morning!

9. Masks and face coverings
There's no longer a legal requirement to wear face coverings in indoor settings or on public transport in the UK. But you can still choose to use a mask if you wish.

10. Winter clothing and layers
UK students know how unpredictable our weather can be, but for some international students, the colder climate can come as a bit of a shock!
Make sure you bring lots of winter clothes and layers to see you through the colder months. Don't forget to pack some slippers and/or sliders to keep your toes toasty around your flat, too.
